Laboratories through secondary schools and some institutes nationwide, use chemicals banned since 1994, as they are proven of causing cancer. These chemicals are benzine products, mercury, and a list of other substances, which is still used by these laboratories, even their use was proven novice and cancer causer.
As a result, people serving through these laboratories, including the chemistry and physics teachers, who met their fate during the last 6 years, is increasing. So, working at a laboratory of a secondary school, or at other institutes’ laboratories specialized in chemistry, turns to be one of the most dangerous jobs in Algeria, as the number of people dying because of the cancers caused by the aforementioned substances in increasing. Though the situation is alarming, no investigation has been opened by the concerned services, to determine the facts. According to the same source, the schools laboratories are still supplied with these dangerous substances, which require severe conditions of use through the laboratories, adding that even they are banned since 1994 through the European countries, they are still marketed in Algeria, and acquired with cheap prices, to be destined to laboratories of schools and university institutes.
